RECORD SEVERE

February 2014 :

The Jet stream seems to have been stuck in the same position for almost two months over the UK, especially Southern England. So that by Mid February we have already received the Wettest winter for over 250 years. Vast areas of Somerset under water for months so that the land may be ruined for some time.

January 2014 :Most of the USA has been hit by severe low temperatures, with Heavy snow affecting the North East with high winds causing huge wind chills and the lowest temperatures for 20 years (minus 37C.). Later in the month the same weather pattern repeats again and again.

In the UK storms and flooding, especially in the SE and Somerset- where they Army is called in. The Wettest in England for over 100 years but the wettest on record in Southern England.
December 2013: Early snow and ice hits as far south as Texas. Dallas especially has severe ice and record lows. Snow over the Syria and Jordan area and for the 1st time for 112 years in parts of Egypt where up to 15 inches falls.

The Christmas Eve storm caused damage and flooding in Southern England. Off Scotland the lowest pressure for 127 years was 936.4 mb.

November 2013 : Philippines - said to be Bedlam after a force 5 strike. Described as the biggest storm to have hit the Earth since reliable records began. Over 6000 deaths

The most extensive sea ice on Satellite records has occurred during the 2013 Antarctic winter. Whilst the Artic summer ice shows some recovery compared to recent summers

COLORADO FLOODING

September 2013 :A record amount of rainfall over a week. Devastation ,7 dead hundreds missing 19,000 homes destroyed or damaged, landslides and several bridges swept away.

The UK has had a long spell of monthly averages that have been predominantly below average since April 2012 up to June 2013( 15 months).

COLD START IN EUROPE

By mid December 2012 parts of Scandanavia and Finland have been 5 - 10 Deg C below average . Southern Germany mountains now have 170cm of snow. minus 23C in Ukraine where 83 have died and one traffic hold up lasted 3 days. Minus 50c in Russia on the 19th, 45 died. Very heavy snow in N.E USA states at the end of the month, an 80 year record in some parts

USA storm/ uk floods

November 2012: Frequent flooding affecting SW England, The Midlands, North Wales, Cumbria and Scotland. St Asaph probably the worst. Overall four people or killed.

October 2012 : On the U.S North East Coast a cat. 1 Hurricane gives the lowest pressure ever recorded in that area( 940 mb) and in terms of area and impact the largest " Superstorm " ever to hit the NE States. 60 million people affected. Massive flooding including some Manhattan underground stations. 100 homes burnt down or destroyed in New York/ New Jersey and many damaged, 107 people killed. The President declares " A Major Disaster ". Ironically Hurricane Sandy blows in deep sand onto the streets. Several feet of snow on higher ground. Some scientists blame sea level rise but others claim there has been no increase for 50 years.

A COLD YEAR ?

2010 was not the coldest year in the met office records , but oddly it was the year with the highest number of Air frosts on record . A total of 89.5 days , higher than 1963. Not what you would expect during a period of global warming ?

2012 . First October snowfall in parts of Australia for a Century. Although the Antartic has produced a record high level of ice this year experts dismiss this as temporary; and that by 2020 snow will disapear from the Australian lower Alpine area. Climate will have to move along pretty quickly then ?
