WORLD EVENTS :

A NEW THEORY of very cold winters due to low sunspot activity, a large area of freshwater in the Artic and a weakening Gulf stream. The BP disaster in the Gulf area may of had an impact. See report

EARLY SNOWFALL During the last week of October 2011.A major snowstorm as far south as New York brings down many power cables. Inland up to 80 cm of snow reported. Snowfall records for October were " crushed".

January 2012 : Residents in one town in Alaska have never seen so much - 10ft and buildings collapsing. Austria have record amounts. Unusually Algeria also have rare snow

ANTARTIC SEA ICE GROWING / SEA LEVELS FALLING:

Antarctic sea ice has yearly variables,more so than the Arctic. Antarctic ice has been growing slightly over the past 30 years. Some regions,however, show strong declines over the past three decades, but other regions have seen significant increases.

Those keen on Global warming are inclined to refer to selected areas and produce figures showing decline only .

Over the last two years there have been significant REDUCTIONS in sea levels worldwide. Not well reported yet warnings are still given for coastal flooding-

JUNE 2012 : U.K , Is the wettest on record and the 2nd dullest. Also the coldest since 1991. Over 100mm of rain falls in 24 hours in the lancashire area. Darwen town centre is flooded so to are other parts including Wigan.  Further flooding a week later with road damage and building foundation damage .Earlier in the month 5 inches of rain falls in West Wales causing severe flooding in the Aberystwyth area and the rescue of over 150 people. Double the average monthly rainfall in just one day. In Stockholm they have their coldest June day for 84 years a maximum of 6C . Cold in the UK ( Max 10c in Darwen on the 9th.

OCTOBER  2011 : 29.9 C was recorded in Kent, uk. A new record high for the month

HURRICANE HITS U.S.A EAST COAST AUGUST 2011 : a few days after an unusual Earthquake (5.8 in Virginia) A Hurricane heads for New York, but is downgraded to a tropical storm. Due to a storm surge, extensive flooding in some areas including parts of Manhatton.

GULF STREAM SHIFT : Some reports last winter 2009-10 explain that much of the Gulf stream was flowing up the west coast of Greenland; If this trend continues, Western Europe will receive much colder winters than we have become used to.

CONFLICTING SIGNS WINTER 10-11 : Global warming, probably yes, but in the northern Hemisphere the winter snow and ice is almost continuous from 45 deg latitude north. The exception this February is Western Europe but elsewhere the satalite charts show a very extensive winter described in the U.S.A as "coast to coast".

Three record droughts in the Amazon have occured since 1997, yet each drought should only occur " once in a hundred years". Scientists have warned that " the world is gambling with its future" as the Amazon which was the lungs of the world is during drought years actually contributing to the emission of co2 .

New research has found that the fall of past civilisations ( including the Roman) has been accompanied by climate instability. Is our climate changing >?

DECEMBER 2010- FEBRUARY 2011 : Floods in Australia cover the equivalent area of France and Germany combined- affecting 100,000 people the strongest cyclone for almost 100 years hits Queensland

December 2010 : The coldest December on record (over 100 yrs) in the U.K . Also the coldest for 300 years from unofficial records. Minus 14C in Hoddlesden. Daytime max minus 5C on the 20th. Midday on the 23rd minus 9C in bright sunshine. In Scotland chaos as people are trapped by snow the worst for 50 years ,vehicles are abandoned on the M8. The Army are called in due to the Motorway being closed for two days and to clear up to 76 cm of snow in the Edinburgh area.N. Ireland have their heaviest snowfal for 25 years and their coldest night on record for December ( minus 18).






November 2010 : An exceptionally cold start to the Winter ( minus 10C in Hoddlesden). Heavy snow in Scotland and the northeast of England. A record low for November in Wales(minus 18 C) and Ulster, by 1st December up to a meter of level snow reported in N.E England.

Sept 2010 : Early snowfall in the Cairngorms,Scotland -4.4 Tyndrum,-4.2 Tulloch Bridge which is their record low for any September

July 2010 : The worlds largest hailstone is recorded in the U.S.A, 23 cms across and just under a kilogram , this hail was heavy enough to punch through roof tiles.

July 2010 : Record heat in Russia affecting Moscow with 8 times the normal pollution level. A new record of 38.2 C In Moscow.Many crop failures.

July 2010: Record breaking floods in Northwest Pakistan ,widespread devastation. The worse monsoon in living memory over 1,000 die.
 
July 2010 : Earthquake records from around the world recently have looked rather unusual with a big increase of major quakes of 6.5 or more, sometimes several occurring over a time of just 3 or four days. Philippines receive four in less than 24 hours .

July 2010 : Peru are having a very severe winter. In Lima the coldest temperature for 46 years is recorded at 8 C. Even in the Amazon a chilly 9C. Hundreds of deaths from exposure.

Winter 2009-2010 :
The coldest winter for England and Wales for 31 years and Scotland / Northern Ireland for 48 years. Travel chaos in December brought widespread problems especially in the S.E with the closure of the Channel tunnel, many roads and airports closed. Cumbria and Lancashire had their heaviest snowfall for 15 years. In early January widespread heavy snowfalls , the worst for 23 years (25 cm in the Darwen area and minus 14 C on the morning of the 7th). In late February Scotland has severe blizzards of up to 3 day duration on higher ground drifts reported as higher than the snow ploughs but level depths 58cm in places.Northern Ireland also affected to some extent.

October 2009: Four major storms hit Philippines within a month, rainfall highest for 40 years

September 2009 : Many Earthquakes this month, some major ones within hours of each other. A Tsunami in Samoa and quake in Sumatra many deaths

September 2009: The Philippines have severe flooding, many drown. The capital Manila badly affected.

September 2009: Climate change could cause an increase in earthquakes , when ice is lost the earths crust bounces back and triggers a quake ( University College London ).

August 2009: Taiwan -a typhoon (worst in 50 years) record rainfall 1.5m in one day, mudslides kill hundreds.

August 2009:"Nine out of ten disasters are now climate-related.Recorded disasters have doubled in number from 200 a year to more than 400 over the past two decades" - united nations report.

July 2009:Torrential rain and hail over S.E England submerge some cars. In St Leonards nr Hastings over 4 inches falls in a few hours, the heaviest downpour since their records began (1865)

July 2009 : Indiana,Illinois,Iowa have their coldest July on record.Despite global warming?

February 2009: An Ice storm brings chaos, the worst natural disaster every to hit Kentucky
U.S.A About 55 deaths often because of fumes from temporary heating appliances. An extensive disaster but hardly reported by the worlds media.

February 2009: The heaviest snow to hit England and Wales for 18 years 15" in places ,traffic and Schools affected more that is usual with these events.

January 2009:Southern Australia have their hottest summer for a century with temperatures reaching 48C in one area. Three days of consistent 43C or more.

25th January 2009: For the fist time ever the Al Jees mountain in the United Emirates has been covered in snow- up to 8" with -3C. Past events have been of a slight scattering only.

30th December 2008: Record cold . In Southport the maximum is minus 2.4C. My records from 1984.

2008 was a huge year for natural disasters : Claims the worlds leading insurance companies. Acknowledging a long term trend. A 50% greater insurance cost resulted than for 2007. Hurricane Ike being the most expensive

Where did Global warming go? Is this a blip? World temperature increase may be stalling. Alaska is given as an example of how global warming may have dire consequences on perma frost but this summers weather (2008) was 2.4C below average. Australia had its coldest ever June. The southern Hemisphere had a cold 2007 winter, Buenos Aires having snow for the first time in 89 years. Chile the hardest winter for 50 years. Johannesburg the fist snow for a quarter of a century. New Zealand :record low spring temperatures. During October 2008 there were 115 record low temperature events in the U.S.A (Nat. Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration). For December 2008 ,record snow fell for the month in parts of Washington U.S.A (61.5")

Hurricanes that will not go away: The damage to Texas from Dolly,Ike and Gustav is estimated at 29.4 Billion dollars and the clear up operation is still going on in November. Operations could bankrupt local Authorities unless sufficient Federal funding arrives. Ike was the third costliest Hurricane on record.

Hurricane season 2008: There has been a major Hurricane for each month July to November. This is the first year in recorded history for this to happen.

Earthquakes increase: "Suddenly we are seeing a spurt in seismic activity globally... no body knows why"- Indian Seismologist R.K Chadha 2007. The Indian Ocean 2004 Earthquake/ Tsunami made the year the " deadliest in nearly 500 years for Earthquakes...The 2nd most fatal in recorded history"- U.S Geological Survey.

Winter is early 2008 : Not since 1934 has the UK had such an early start to Winter. The extent of October snowfall laying on the ground occurring as far south as London.In Baghdad the first snow fell in living memory in January 2008.

Cows a danger to Global warming. Portsmouth University report - In the period that CO2 has increased by 30%. Cows have out performed by expelling 149% more Methane. The methane has a more severe affect on global warming.-Oct 2008Rise in Ocean PH adds to the concern for the planet-Oct 08

From the UN :Natural disasters during the first 6 months of 2008, have brought a greater death toll than the Tsunami of 2004. The greatest disaster being the Cyclone that affected Burma in May 2008.

RECORD SEVERE

February 2014 :

The Jet stream seems to have been stuck in the same position for almost two months over the UK, especially Southern England. So that by Mid February we have already received the Wettest winter for over 250 years. Vast areas of Somerset under water for months so that the land may be ruined for some time.

January 2014 :Most of the USA has been hit by severe low temperatures, with Heavy snow affecting the North East with high winds causing huge wind chills and the lowest temperatures for 20 years (minus 37C.). Later in the month the same weather pattern repeats again and again.

In the UK storms and flooding, especially in the SE and Somerset- where they Army is called in. The Wettest in England for over 100 years but the wettest on record in Southern England.
December 2013: Early snow and ice hits as far south as Texas. Dallas especially has severe ice and record lows. Snow over the Syria and Jordan area and for the 1st time for 112 years in parts of Egypt where up to 15 inches falls.

The Christmas Eve storm caused damage and flooding in Southern England. Off Scotland the lowest pressure for 127 years was 936.4 mb.

November 2013 : Philippines - said to be Bedlam after a force 5 strike. Described as the biggest storm to have hit the Earth since reliable records began. Over 6000 deaths

The most extensive sea ice on Satellite records has occurred during the 2013 Antarctic winter. Whilst the Artic summer ice shows some recovery compared to recent summers

September 2013 :A record amount of rainfall over a week. Devastation ,7 dead hundreds missing 19,000 homes destroyed or damaged, landslides and several bridges swept away.

The UK has had a long spell of monthly averages that have been predominantly below average since April 2012 up to June 2013( 15 months).

2013 :The most snow on record fell over the winter in Japan. March :Record hail in China big enough to punch holes in windscreens also a series of storms and Tornados.

15 th February 2013 . A rare event - A Meteorite explodes over Russia 1200 people injured. A few hours later an Asteroid passes close to Earth (127,000 miles) visible by Binoculars. Major Earthquakes on average on a daily basis over the last week. The Pope resigns and the Vatican is hit by lightning.

February 2013 : Said to be the worst snowstorm for decades . Blizzards with 60cm of snowfall and high drifts. Half a million without power 6 people die in the NE states.

COLD START IN EUROPE

By mid December 2012 parts of Scandanavia and Finland have been 5 - 10 Deg C below average . Southern Germany mountains now have 170cm of snow. minus 23C in Ukraine where 83 have died and one traffic hold up lasted 3 days. Minus 50c in Russia on the 19th, 45 died. Very heavy snow in N.E USA states at the end of the month, an 80 year record in some parts

November 2012: Frequent flooding affecting SW England, The Midlands, North Wales, Cumbria and Scotland. St Asaph probably the worst. Overall four people or killed.

October 2012 : On the U.S North East Coast a cat. 1 Hurricane gives the lowest pressure ever recorded in that area( 940 mb) and in terms of area and impact the largest " Superstorm " ever to hit the NE States. 60 million people affected. Massive flooding including some Manhattan underground stations. 100 homes burnt down or destroyed in New York/ New Jersey and many damaged, 107 people killed. The President declares " A Major Disaster ". Ironically Hurricane Sandy blows in deep sand onto the streets. Several feet of snow on higher ground. Some scientists blame sea level rise but others claim there has been no increase for 50 years.

A COLD YEAR ?

2010 was not the coldest year in the met office records , but oddly it was the year with the highest number of Air frosts on record . A total of 89.5 days , higher than 1963. Not what you would expect during a period of global warming ?

2012 . First October snowfall in parts of Australia for a Century. Although the Antartic has produced a record high level of ice this year experts dismiss this as temporary; and that by 2020 snow will disapear from the Australian lower Alpine area. Climate will have to move along pretty quickly then ?
